Dans les associations de photographes, ils sont aussi très présents, reconnus pour leurs compétences. A partir des années 1980, dans un contexte de crise économique, ils forment de plus en plus d'autochtones qui, menacés par le chômage, commencent à se tourner vers une profession jusque-là ignorée. Cet ouvrage aborde un sujet peu connu et peu étudié, celui du métier de photographe en Afrique de l'Ouest, un métier en pleine évolution, dont le savoir-faire et les productions constituent un héritage précieux qui documente l'histoire contemporaine de l'Afrique et qu'il est urgent de préserver.
